'æsean' deals with a specific feeling that accompanies the loss of someone who is especially close to you; the recurring awareness that a language built upon hyper-specific, atypically linked, and overlapping frames of reference has now become obsolete. Every instance of this realisation leads to an acute sense of isolation that can last from a split second to consecutive weeks or months.

I'd love to be able to offer some words of consolation to anyone else who might be experiencing this, but I'm not sure that I can: I am convinced that this feeling never entirely dissipates. By way of consolation, I'm forced to believe that this recurring hell is the trade-off for the gift of true connection with others.

If you are struggling or in need of help, please reach out to those around you - while they will never be a true replacement for what has been lost, they may offer you a glimpse of what lies beyond the horizon.
